Durian in a Nutshell

Just a short summary of Ps Soo Inn's sermon at F. Hill:

Although it's not gonna do justice to all that's happened during
the camp, (like compressing a durian in a nutshell) I hope the
following notes from Ps Tan's sermon wud help a lil'! (mostly from
the 'vocation' class)

We are called to a ministry of preservation (salt) and revelation
(light). Christians should preserve the moral fibre of society as
well as become "PowerPoint" presentations that show the way to
Christ. We can only fulfil these callings IF we are different from
those who do not know Christ. In a world that's numbed to 'words',
being bombarded by sales pitches, forwarded mails, etc, our message
should be a life-message - words and deeds.

We can only fulfil these ministries IF we take our life in the world
seriously. An obstacle that Soo Inn wanted to remove was the
unconscious idea we have about a spiritual hierarchy - missionaries
and pastors at the top... and businessmen, politicians and jazz
musicians at the bottom. This is not true because we are called to
serve God in all spheres of life. By implication, we can
be 'ordained salesperson' or 'ordained politician/accountant' etc.

10 Thing we can do to make a difference:

Pray, Make disciples, being a community that exhibits grace and
holiness, social concern (pro-life?), creatively share Christian
principles in public square, campaign to influence legislation,
prophetically blow the whistle when gross injustice is found, change
power structures from within, work thru the imperfect political
system, and in a fallen world, there may be times when peaceful
civil disobedience is required.
