I went to the new MPH at One Utama, and was really delighted to
find so huge a collection of interesting Christian books. (also the
occasional liberal & Muslim ones too!) Some of you who followed
Christianity Today magazine would have known this but I came away
with the realisation that "Open theism", a 'new' doctrine that God's
foreknowledge is self-limited to give room for human freewill, has
finally reached the popular level of the masses in Malaysia.
The indication is in the variety of books from both sides of the
debate... "The Most Moved Mover" by Pinnock, "God of the possible"
& "God at War" by Greg Boyd versus "Battle for the Gods" by Norm
Geisler, "God's lesser glory" & "Your God is too small" by Bruce Ware
It seems that SUFES and Canaanland also carry two other titles not
found elsewhere namely John Sanders' 'God who risks' and Millard
Erickson's 'What does God know?'
Another two books - "Beyond the Bounds" edited by Piper and 'Across
the Spectrum' edited by Boyd discuss whether open theism should be
considered as 'within' the boundary of evangelicalism or orthodox
Christianity for that matter.
In a way I'm glad that the wider church of Christ would be made more
aware about the debate... in another sense, I'm saddened that such a
grievous error is given more publicity when there should be a
strong response from clergy and laity to warn the sheep (without
forestalling further discussion). As always, things are left to
fester in the academia for decades b4 simmering down to the laity.
Hahha... well, that's just me and my musings.
