Kia Meng Is Back!

When I need to know what's hot and what's not in the music department, I can always rely on John See. He'd throw a few names, pique my curiosity and I'd start thinking about dabbling into Norah Jones, Diana Krall etc.

When it comes to books and theology, I can always count on Kia Meng to recommend what's the latest 'in thing' to come off the publishing house.

While in HELP Institute, both of us were very much 'into' Francis Schaeffer - Christian manifesto, the trilogy etc. Later, it was him who introduced me to John Piper's Desiring God! (yup, he was THE man...)

Now, he's more 'into' Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, NT Wright etc. while I'm still basically around the same territory, heheh! (been getting my hands dirty with 'biblical studies' rather than philosophy lately)

Those Ipohites who had the privilege to 'yam char' with this John Lennon-lookalike last Chinese New Year had an indelible mark in their minds of how this anti-hero could switch gears from high philosophy to movies, from LOTR narratives to BGR without breaking a sweat... We were held 'captive audience' till the wee hours of the morning, and still come back for more!

Theology oughta be fun, and this guy makes it sound like it's the most exciting thing after English Premier League.

Always looking for a way to contextualise our theology into what we are facing in daily life, you may say.

He can really talk... full of passion and zest. Only problem is, he can't type very fast so that explains why there is no blog... yet! Idealistic, rebel with a cause... (Jee Seng just can't forget the Che Guevara T-Shirt...)

One sister commented that she had never seen guys who go Coffee Bean and talk abt Oscar predictions on LOTR + postmodern metanarratives, then walk up to MPH and talk Karl Barth, etc... I thot she was bored, but it turned out that she actually enjoyed it.

I think, in a way, we're having a rather contrasting mirror image in our journey. He's finished his studies in law and philosophy and now, breaking into the 'real world' with his ideals intact. For me, after being in the 'real world' for so many years, trying to find a way to break free and chase those ideals again?

(Just so happy that you are back in Malaysia, bro! As Dr KW wud probably like you to know, UK is child's play, it's right here in Asia where you see stuffs heroes are made of, where the giants are genuinely 'blood-curdling'!)
