Into The Lion's Den

Some UM students, Leon and I attended a 'dakwah' dinner in KL on 18th of September 2004... It's nice to get evangelised once in a while. Got a free copy of Quran, and bought a dakwah-apologetics training DVD. (no contest compared to STR.org)

There was a Quran recital at the start and Q&A session at the end. Even an 'altar call' thrown in for good measures. The speaker seems to count more responses than I can see hands raised. He could learn a lot from Dr Prince Guneratnam in that area.

I like the more dignified, less hand-wringing approach though.

Profiles of our speaker that night:

Hey did you remember the altar call trick he pulled. He made a call for all theists (by a description rather than using that term itself) and I put up my hand, and he told me and the rest who responded that we were as good as Muslim! I somehow don’t see how he made such a connection - as there are so many issues I needed answers for, polygamy, validity of the final prophet, the historicity of the Quran and the existential efficacy of the five pillars in the human quest for righteousness. I dream of a world, where one can present these questions to a Muslim without fear of a fatwa looming. Perhaps Malaysia can be that place, in these times of Islam Hadiri.
