If all of us begin to look at our ambition in the context of 'how can I serve God more' rather than 'how can I be more upwardly mobile', I think we are getting the right direction...
In fact at EAGC Bali, Charles Ringma, the main conf speaker talked abt having the mind of christ. And what did He do? He did just the exact opposite. His was a classic case of becoming downwardly mobile (Phil 2:5-8). Perhaps the call for all of us is to be as faithful as we can to our God and to be ambitious for His glory in our lives at ALL times. The material rewards should then be seen strictly as a by product of our faithfulness to him which include seeking to give him our best in all we do (Col 3:23) remembering that He is the real boss not our earthly ones.
Some of us may by clear calling be led to high places in society and they like anyone else is then to work out his calling before God with fear and trembling less we are tempted and we fall away. This would help us deal with the 'health and wealth' theology that permeates some parts of the christian fratenity.
