The Virgin Army

I wish our 'conservative moral status quo' in Malaysia will never change..

Back in Ipoh (where you can get fined for holding hands in public park), teenagers used to be discouraged from simple 'dating'... Even going out for coffee one-on-one with a person of oppposite sex is a huge thing!

Boy, am I glad to be 20-something! heheh... (for now!)

But things have changed... there's a vague feeling that even virginity is 'old-fashioned' - an option for people who dun have a 'choice'!

No need to talk about 'dating' lar...

Talking about another context, Schaeffer famously said:

"To ask young people to maintain the status quo is folly. The status quo is no longer ours."

Against the mainstream 'eroticisation of daily life', sexual abstinence (not prudery) could be positively radical and counterculture!

Al Mohler, whom TIME described as the reigning intellectual of the evangelical movement, had more to say about The New Virgin Army

Err... i assume you virgin soldier?? But yes sexual ethics is one battle field in today's world. We need to celebrate the goodness of sex while insisting that it is for the covenant of marriage.

Heheh... Technically, yes!

Listen to this from a critic:

"Sexual regulation is a means, not an end. To believers, the movement offers a vision grander even than the loveliness of a virgin: a fairy tale in which every man will be a spiritual warrior, a knight in the service of the king of kings, promised the hand and the heart and, yes, the sexual services of a 'lady.' That is the erotic dream of Christian conservatism: a restoration of chivalry, a cleansing of impurity, a nation without sin, an empire of the personal as political."
