"Why bother with mission?

The average Klang Valley movie-goer might think of Tom Cruise or Apollo 13 when they hear about mission. The average Christian is sometimes just as off-the-mark. For many, mission is an activity done by a minority group of very committed, though quite eccentric people. These people are sent to far-off parts of the earth to work for God and then come home once in a while to tell us about their adventures and ask for prayer. But in the Bible, and whole people of God were called to be His missionary people. The people of God are His mission agents in the world.

BUT WHY SHOULD WE "DISTURB" MODERN, 21ST CENTURY PEOPLE WITH THE GOSPEL?

*Because people are really lost without Christ.
*Because it is the loving thing to do.
*Because it is our way of saying "thank you" to God for our own salvation.
*Because it is an act of obedience.

But there is one primary reason why all of us should care about mission. We care about mission because of the God we worship. We care about mission because we are concerned for the glory of God! What matters ultimately is God's glory and the honour of his name among the nations. Every other reason flows from this and that is why mission is the business of every Christian.

CDPC's inaugural mission conference kicks off on this high note. We have the privilege of having one of God's key servants speak to us on mission and the glory of God.

We'll be having respresentatives from a creative variety of mission organizations to show us the many ways that God's mission is being carried out around the world and on our doorstep.

We live in difficult times. Everyday we are reminded of a world in turmoil because it is lost apart from Jesus. The world's need for the gospel of Jesus Christ is disturbingly obvious. This is not the time for apathy.

Not all of us will be called to go and work in Botswana, Bolivia or Bangkok, but all of us who follow Jesus are called to be part of his world-wide mission team. And whether we go across the world or across the street, all of us are to live our lives for the glory of God so that others see as well as hear the gospel from our lives. Be part of the CDPC mission conference and take a step to being on the cutting edge of what God is doing among the nations."
