Yada-Yada About Yoga

Had a hilarious time learning some yoga moves with Grace and Mom last Sunday.
Yikes, a Calvinist yogi in the making?!

Not a chance! My muscles were too stiff, and bones too brittle. But she could probably scratch her back with feet, hehehe..

I've been pondering about yoga for some time... and here is my tentative position.

Chatted with Alison Thomas (RZIM) in Bali, she is an associate apologist who doubled as a physical exercise instructor who teaches stretching, breathing techniques (minus the meditation/chanting). She commented that the Christian faith ought to have a high view of the body since God became flesh and dwelt among us.

Could we 'spoil the Egyptians' by ransacking what's good in yoga?

But she is uncomfortable with calling it 'yoga' since a lot of unsuspecting Christians are dabbling into hinduism thru it. Instead she called it 'pilates'.

OK, interesting missional strategy... call it whatever. Do something to recover the body already.

On the other side, people were wary because we ought not give devil an opening to attack us spiritually. But if we dun 'empty our minds', what toehold could he have?

Another argument goes... "Humans ought not pose as cobra or any animal. It insults the image of God in us". Is that biblical?

But Sunday school kids have been 'walking like ducks' in church telematches since time immemorial! Some even hop like bunnies during Easter egg-hunts... Sei-lor...

At least, we gotta be consistent in our application of this principle la..

I found this article quite interesting - "Yes To Yoga?"

"The closest any of my gym's several yoga teachers get to religious utterances is by bowing and saying "Namaste" at the end each class, which can be translated as "The soul in me honors the soul in you" or "The image of God in me honors the image of God in you." I like it! It just reminds me that, as C. S. Lewis put it, there are no mere mortals."
