The Divergence II

Y2K posted a nice comment here:

...perhaps we shouldn't be too worried about achieving convergence. I think as we learn to live (and love, while being) in this tension of finding ourselves at odds with fellow Christians yet continuing to fellowship/be vulnerable.

Another point of tension we should not shy away from is to boldly pursue our convictions (about life, theology, philosophy etc) while always being open to learn from others. This tension (which is not the same as balance) will at points lead us more towards divergence than convergence. But if so, the different parts of the Body should still continue to pursue what each perceives to be faithful to God.

Here is a refreshing female perspective from the eloquent Bohtea:

In a similar manner of communicating the Gospel, I give room for Schaeffer’s classical call to “need to do a great deal of heart-searching as to how we may speak what is eternal into a changing historical situation”, yet must maintain a certain degree of exclusivity in not allowing ‘generosity for the contending of more than one true Christian theology’, which seems to me a rather relative and liberal stand.
(italics/bold mine)

So I take that as my cue to launch into The Divergence series and respond to some earlier comments, hehehe...
