Winds Of Change

The latest cover issue of Christianity Today is finally available here

Here are some fascinating quotes:

"If there's an appeal to students, it's that we're not playing around," Kent Hughes said. "We're not entertaining them. This is life and death. My sense is that's what they're interested in, even from an old man."

"If you really understand Reformed theology, we should all just sit around shaking our heads going, 'It's unbelievable. Why would God choose any of us?'" Harris said. "You are so amazed by grace, you're not picking a fight with anyone, you're just crying tears of amazement that should lead to a heart for lost people, that God does indeed save, when he doesn't have to save anybody."

"I think the criticism of Reformed theology is being silenced by the mission and justice and evangelism and worship and counseling- the whole range of pastoral life. We're not the kind who are off in Grand Rapids ghetto crossing our t's and dotting our i's and telling the world to get their act together. We're in the New Orleans slums with groups like Desire Street Ministries, raising up black elders through Reformed theology from 9-year-old boys who had no chance." -John Piper

"They're not going to embrace your theology unless it makes their hearts sing"

"While the Emergent "conversation" gets a lot of press for its appeal to the young, the new Reformed movement may be a larger and more pervasive phenomenon. It certainly has a much stronger institutional base."

"And it's not because mission will trump doctrine--young people seem to reject this dichotomy. It's because the young Calvinists value theological systems far less
than God and his Word."

I met some of these young and restless missionaries-in-training at Minneapolis, one of them would graduate soon and expecting a baby as the family aspires to the mission field.

If our prayers reflect our theology, listen to how a biblical vision of God inspires breathtaking prayer requests

1.That we would continue to make Christ our greatest object of joy, hope and worship.
2.That we would continue to seek the Fathers Kingdom; and the advance therein.
3.That we would be focused on the faithfulness of our Father as we consider how to move forward after school.
4.That our desire to let go of the things of this world would increase; and, that our desire for God and his kingdom would increase, and that this would be part and parcel to fueling our obedience of faith.
5. That we would not see children as an obstacle to laying down our lives for Christ.
That's Christian hedonism in action... Enlarge my vision of Your all-satisfying glory, Lord, and enable me to treasure You above earthly comforts!
