Agora Spore in Melaka

Spent a weekend profitably with the Agora Singapore team in Melaka for the RZIM Reasonable Faith camp. Met up new friends from Graduate Christian Fellowship Singapore and for the first time, met Godlief Wesley an online friend for 3 years face to face as well.

Here are some photos and brief reflections from Mejlina, Ben and Joshua...

It was fruitful to clarify our purpose and to rally the team again to the task that lies ahead. One concern is our Agora Singapore forum is getting more exciting with cutting-edge social and theological issues being discussed freely. Not all views expressed in the forum represent ours so there is a felt need for a clearer statement of beliefs to clarify our basic positions.

I felt that is a fair concern especially if one of our goals is to train and to teach young Christians to reflect and live biblically. We cannot treat theology as some kind of intellectual chess game we play around with as if words are wax-noses to be shaped whichever way we like.

At the same time, we wanna be engaging with these ideas openly also. It is our cherished value that the idea is to educate, not isolate people. We cannot hide behind doctrinal walls without listening, appreciating, learning and/or correcting inadequate views that have serious consequences. Engaging the marketplace should remain one of our deepest values as well.

I'm happy that these bright young are concerned about faithfulness to Scripture and community learning. We had loads of fun playing games, watching movie, learning apologetics from veterans like LT, Iching, Stuart and John Dickson, chatting about BGR, walking around the happening Jonker Street, chendol/shopping at Tan Kim Hock and tried out the famous local delicacies...
