Heard a Toast Master speech competition recently conducted online due to coronavirus lockdown. The speaker Phoebe starts with her Grandma who had the same hairstyle/barber for decades and taught her how to cook her favorite dish. One Chinese New Year, she kept asking Phoebe if she had given her ang pow thrice. It was quite frustrating of course. When Grandma realized that, she asked her out for lunch since forgetfulness is a sign of old age and there's no telling how much time they had left.
That prompted Phoebe to think about all the big existential questions... What happens after we die? She asked her boyfriend one day as they held hands and had ice cream: What would happen if I'm no longer here? He thought for a while and said: I think I'd be OK...
She fumed inwardly. What do you mean? You better have a good answer...
He said: I'd always the memories of us being together, holding hands and having ice cream like now. The moments... The celebration of life together.
That seems to be the breakthrough she was looking for. As she cooks Granma's recipes, she celebrates her life... remembers how she looks like, what kind of person she was etc.
