The Gnostics

If ur into exotic books, u may like to visit Time bookstore in Bangsar Shopping Complex... some 'new discoveries' about Mary Magdalene are sold there.

It's part of this movement in the US to promote Gnosticism as a valid tradition in early Christianity, which offers a Jesus who is married, friendlier to feminism, opposed to any church hierarchy, whose way of salvation is to realise the divine spark in you - a theme of Matrix, by the way.

The Da Vinci Code has a spin on that, though I'd suggest that u dun get your 'facts' from there.. try a scholar like elaine pagels!

I am irked by his conspiracy theories... but I'm curious to find out where his sources come from. There is no secret plan to keep a lid on the gnostic writings,,, it's all on the Net.

I took a few minutes to include here some passages that were the primary source for Dan Brown's theories... read for yourself and see if they say as much as he wud like?

From the Gospel of Philip:
And the companion of the [...] Mary Magdalene. [...] loved her more than all the disciples, and used to kiss her often on her ... [mouth?cheek?face? hand?] the rest of the disciples [...]. They said to him "Why do you love her more than all of us?" The Savior answered and said to them,"Why do I not love you like her? When a blind man and one who sees are both together in darkness, they are no different from one another. When the light comes, then he who sees will see the light, and he who is blind will remain in darkness."

From the Gospel of Thomas:

Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life."
Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."
