Leslie Newbigin

“We are now faced with a new task which may be defined as follows:

How to embody in the life and teaching of the Church the claim that Christ is Lord over all life, without falling into the Constantinian impasse?" (Newbigin)

In our Msian context, we're torn between an 'Islamic state' and a secular state. Read a booklet abt Dakwah and Mission in our country, the author says Islam is not a religion but a way of life. So separation between church and state is the Christian's idea.

Perhaps we need to heed Newbigin's description of our missionary task. On one hand we wanna avoid the extreme of marrying church and state ie Constantine's model or PAS Model. On the other hand, we need to be careful of privatised religion and secularised state. That's assumption of modernism, right?

Religious (universal?) ideals oughta be able to address public policies. We need to be equipped to articulate these ideals in the public intelligently”  Posted by Hello

Newbigin is amazing. Wait till you hear him "Live" on tape. The passion is contagious. No armchair theologian here.

Still in the midst of writing a 1000 word biography on the man... he was converted after a visionary experience of seeing Christ with His arms outstretched to embrace the world...
