The Other Malaysia

Been reading some Malay writers like Karim Raslan some time back.

But Farish Noor's 'The Other Malaysia' is a very thot-provoking book "highlighting the marginalised elements of Malaysian history that have been sidelined by the official historical narrative of the Malaysian state"...

Go get it!

What surprises me is he looks so young! Seems to me that we dun have a lot of young, Christian writers in the political arena. With some notable exceptions, of course, Ong Kian Meng and John Chung?

On the recent Jawi fiasco at some nightspots, Farish Noor wrote:

"(Malaysians) must remember this simple yet vital truth: Any attack on any section of Malaysian society (whatever their racial, ethnic, linguistic, gender or cultural background) is an attack on Malaysian society as a whole. When one Malaysian citizen has his or her rights infringed, threatened or abused, we – all of us – are the shared victims of that abuse. We need to realise this now, more than ever. In the words of the American film director Spike Lee: “Wake up. Please, wake up.”
