Christology Lectures

The controversies that followed the recent release of Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion” and the publication of the best seller book, The Da Vinci Code demand an informed and competent response from Christians.

This course will introduce students to issues related to current research in the quest for the historical Jesus and the validity of the historical-critical method in the study of the Gospels as primary historical documents.

This course offers a deeper understanding how the Gospel documents proclaim the perfect humanity and deity of Christ, especially in the titles of Christ and his self-understanding expressed through his words and works. Special attention will be given to the virgin birth, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The course will further examine the nature of the incarnation and the Christological formulations in the early Church, especially The Nicene Creed (325 AD) and The Chalcedonian Creed (451AD).

(Dave: Excellent idea! We need to recover a grasp on these touchstones of orthodoxy)
