Time's Top 25

Hmmm... JI Packer would be my favorite evangelical among Time's Top 25. (click on title above)

Here's an interesting transcript of Larry King's interview with Mr and Mrs LaHaye, Franklin Graham, Brian McLaren and TD Jakes (whose eloquent performance surprised many)

My play-by-play commentary on how they fare is in the comments below.

I was privileged to study with Packer but always had A- for all my papers with him. (at least I didn't flunk.)
It must be remembered that Packer spoke up for the reliability of the Word in England in the 60s', at a time when it wasn't cool to be an evangelical. That took guts and conviction. We are beneficiatries of people like him.
I also appreciate the fact that though he has his own convictions, he is regarded as a friend by many Chrisian traditions, eg the Pentecostals because of his irenic spirit and his clear theologizing.
A good model for all of us.

Hey, dont forget John Piper! He's my favourite in the list - but I was surprised that he made it into the list, cause his theology is obviously not popular today.

Did he make it to the list? hahaha... Though he's a pastor to many pastors, I'd be surprised too!

Dave, I bought the print issue for this article, and Piper's in there. He is not in the website though.

I read the transcript online, and I thank God at least T.D. Jakes did ok. Brian McLaren was slithering all over the place like a good French politician. He tells people what they want to hear, and is careful not to say anything while saying plenty, gosh, it is a wonder that he is becoming so popular. I would love to get my hands on the demographics of what sort of folks the Emergent is growing with – there is a great truth to be revealed there I tell you. Lahaye and Graham proved all the stereotypes about American evangelicals to be true – which was probably the reason they were selected. Why didn’t they get John Piper? *Sigh*

Greg Koukl will do well.. I think McLaren is not being dishonest or pandering to the crowd. I trust that he's someone who loves God and the church, doing all he know best for reaching postmoderns. Sometimes, he does appear to lack clarity and conviction esp in thorny issues like homosexuality (but it is a tough issue isn't it?)
