Wanted: Christian Advocates

It's about time! NECF came up with a response on Transsexuality here.

It's like walking a tightrope, I can imagine. Some selected excerpts:

We recognise that all of us are sinners, and that the only real hope for sinful people, whether heterosexual, homosexual or transsexual, is for wholeness that is found only in Jesus Christ.

We deeply regret any hurt caused to transsexuals by any unwelcoming or rejecting attitudes on the part of the Church. We call upon evangelical congregations to genuinely welcome and accept transsexuals, while acknowledging the need for parallel teaching, wisdom and discernment.

We affirm that monogamous heterosexual marriage is the form of partnership uniquely intended by God for sexual relationship between men and women. We would resist church service for the marriage or blessing of transsexual partnerships on scriptural grounds.

We commend and encourage transsexuals who have determined to restore their birth sex identity as a result of biblical conviction, and/or who have decided to resist gender reassignment surgery. We would seek prayerfully to support their reorientation through the grace of God.

We in principle are opposed to civil discrimination against transsexuals, for example in respect of human rights and employment.

Greg Koukl once spoke of the most depressing scene in his entire life as a social advocate. There was a public 'discussion' on the school's policy of condom distribution.

And a Christian lady stood up to give her point of view in front of educators, parents and students.

After speaking a few words about her position, she spent the rest of her time on the podium... singing a hymn! She was sincere, but very misguided.

She has betrayed a public trust to speak sensibly to the situation.
Enough of knee-jerk reactions and theatric histrionics.

More than ever, we need Christians who are psychiatrists, doctors, lawyers, counsellors, educators etc to take active role in speaking intelligibly and engage the marketplace of ideas.

How? You may write to the Letters section at mailed@nstp.com.my (for NST Online) or letters@nstp.com.my (print edition). Send your views to Malaysiakini.

Get involved! It's time to 'leave behind' the monastic (katak bawah tempurung) mentality of popular contemporary evangelicalism.

I think one of the next big fights will be over the age of conscent. I was reading about one English homosexual blogger who was arguing for it to be 14 since boys could experience homosexual lusts already at that age (according to him)

Another assumption that has snuck into the public consciousness is that if you have a lust then you must live it out so that you won't repress it.

What if we have found a pathological killer gene. Would that be OK then? haahah...

incredible...

Me and a roman catholic friend had a long debate on that before and we came up with necrophilia as something that didn't harm anyone but will stay forbidden for a long time to come regardless (thank God).

That's very insightful abt the moral confusion we find ourselves in...

increasingly its difficult to find people who has the moral clarity to say adultery, murder, theft are wrong.

I had to use examples like 'torturing babies for fun' to gross them out of the stupor. But you gave a good example in necrophilia. It seems that wikipedia cited an example of consensual necrophilia heheh!
